190417-N-CL765-1003 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (April 17, 2019) Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class Christian Samaras, attached to Patrol Squadron (VP) 40, removes a panel to grease control surfaces on the tail of P-3C Orion aircraft. VP-40 is deployed to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security. VP-40 is the last active-duty squadron to fly the P-3C Orion aircraft and after this deployment will transition to the P-8 Poseidon.
