Gunnery Sgt. Isrrael Martinez, training chief with the Inspector-Instructor staff of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, concentrates on the sights of his bow while drawing back an arrow during the 2012 Marine Corps Trials archery competition Feb. 18. Martinez is part of the Wounded Warrior Battalion-East team. On Aug. 26, 2007 Martinez and other quick reaction force Marines were responding to a call regarding a convoy that had got hit by an improvised explosive device in Al-Anbar province, Iraq. While Martinez and his convoy were responding to that call, his vehicle was also hit by an IED. The San Jose, Calif. native suffered multiple serious injuries. The Marine Corps Trials is a Wounded Warrior Regiment hosted event in which approximately 300 wounded, ill and injured Marines compete for a spot on the 50-athlete, All-Marine team roster. The selected athletes will go on to compete in the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, April 30 – May 6. The Games are a competition between all branches of service for wounded, ill and injured service members.
