190418-N-UP025-019 CORONADO, Calif., (April 18, 2019) Capt. (ret) Darren McPherson, former commanding officer of USS Lake Erie (CG 70) and mentor of Lt. Andrew Bergstrom pins Bergstrom with a command pin as he assumes command of Coastal Riverine Squadron Three Alpha Company Crew Two during an assumption of command ceremony onboard Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. Bergstrom is the first ever naval officer to assume command of a Mk VI patrol boat and its crew. The new Mk VI patrol boat command-at-sea billets are one of two new opportunities for Mark VI leadership in the Coastal Riverine Force. The Coastal Riverine Force provides a core capability to defend designated high value assets throughout the green and blue-water environment and providing forces worldwide in an integrated, joint and combined theater of operations.
