Korompilas, a World War II Navy veteran, speaks about his experiences after being presented with the Navy and Marine Corps Medal during a pass-in-review graduation ceremony at Recruit Training Command. Korompilas saved the life of a shipmate when his ship, USS Mannert L. Abele (DD 773) was sunk on 12 April, 1945. More than 35,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp.
