Although Mann, an Easton, Pennsylvania native, is part of and trains with the 1st AML, he works full-time as the operations manager for the laboratory sciences directorate at the U.S. Army Public Health Center (APHC) through the Modified Table of Organization and Equipment (MTOE) Assigned Personnel (MAP). The 1st AML is one of the few U.S. Army units using the MAP program, which allows health professionals to be part of a deployable unit while they perform duties at other U.S. Army Medical Command research or medical facilities such as the APHC, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center or the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.
