SAN DIEGO (April 5, 2019) Intelligence Specialist 3rd Class Joseph Ciuro, left, and Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Kevin May, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), pick up trash during a beach cleanup at Silver Strand State Beach. Nearly 100 Sailors volunteered to pick up trash along a 1.25-mile portion of the beach. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot level maintenance availability.
