Members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force exit Landing Craft Utility 1635, embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu, on San Clemente Island during a beach landing exercise with Marines from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit during Exercise Iron Fist 2012. Iron Fist is a training exercise between U.S. Marines and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force designed to increase interoperability and amphibious capabilities throughout the U.S. 3rd and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.
