Las Vegas, native Lt. Col. Christopher Walach, commander of the 1st "Attack" Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, pins an Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM) with "V" device for valor on Suffolk, Va., native Spc. Aaron Sims, an armament technician for Company D, 1-227th, during an award ceremony Aug. 3 at Camp Taji, Iraq. Sims was awarded the ARCOM with valor for his action March 10 on the flight line where he and two other Soldiers removed a smoking rocket pod from a battle damaged Apache so that it wouldn't harm the aircraft or Soldiers.
