Capt. George McArthur, Communication Strategy and Operations officer-in-charge with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, plays the Great Highlands Bagpipes to rouse motivational spirit toward the end of a 10 kilometer hike at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, March 29, 2019. More than 200 Marines and Sailors with the 31st MEU Command Element flew to a landing zone in the Central Training Area roughly 6 miles from the unit command post, marching back with full packs, protective vests and helmets to build morale and camaraderie after recently returning to garrison. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a variety of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
