a certified sign of the times... as Naval Hospital Bremerton
(NHB) certified nurses were acknowledged for their specialized achievements
with Certified Nurses Day on March 19, 2018. Lt. Cmdr. April Gilbrech joins
others to autograph next to their printed name and chosen specialized
certification to acknowledge their expertise. Gilbrech, a Certified
Pediatric Nurse, is one of approximately 75 certified nurses - more than 60
percent - out of approximately 114 military and civilian nurses assigned to
NHB including Branch Health Clinic (BHC) Bangor, BHC Everett and BHC Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard, with nearly 90 certifications in more than 30
specialties. NHB's percentage total is more than triple the national average
of 20 percent certified. Gilbrech, a Indianapolis, Ind. native and Beech
Grove High School, Beech Grove, Ind. 1998 graduate, was selected on March
10, 2019, for the Navy's Perioperative Nurse Training Program, a
challenging, highly sought-after assignment, and nursing specialty, to
prepare a registered nurse like Gilbrech to work in both inpatient and
outpatient settings providing highly technical and critical patient-centered
care to those in need. (Official Navy photo by Douglas H Stutz, Naval Hospital Bremerton Public Affairs).
