U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Jerry Brumfield is the offload prepositioning personnel (OPP) chief during a maritime prepositioning force (MPF) offload for Exercise Balikatan aboard the U.S.N.S Pililaau (TAKR-304), March 22, 2019, at Subic Bay International Airport, Republic of the Philippines. MPF offloads provide the Marines Corps the ability to distribute equipment and assets to service members in deployed environments through the Indo-Pacific region at a moment’s notice. The OPP force was utilized before and during the MPF offload to make sure that all equipment was ready for its task during Exercise Balikatan 2019. Balikatan is a Tagalog phrase that means “shoulder-to-shoulder” and is an annual exercise between the U.S. military and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
