TACLOBAN, Philippines (March 21, 2019) – An observer from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Disaster Response Unit watches as Bureau of Fire Protection Philippines personnel treat a victim with a simulated leg injury in a field training exercise at the Tacloban North Public Market that simulated a response to a notional 8.5-magnitude earthquake. This exercise is the capstone humanitarian assistance and disaster response event of the PP19 visit to the Philippines. Pacific Partnership, now in its 14th iteration, is the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Pacific. Each year the mission team works collectively with host and partner nations to enhance regional interoperability and disaster response capabilities, increase security and stability in the region, and foster new and enduring friendships in the Indo-Pacific.
