U.S. Army Soldiers with 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, have their orders inspected by members of the German police upon arrival at Berlin, Germany as part of an emergency deployment readiness exercise, March 19, 2019. 2-1 ABCT deployed to Europe at the direction of the Secretary of Defense to exercise the U.S. Army's ability to rapidly alert, recall and deploy under emergency conditions.

The U.S. Army routinely conducts EDREs to assess its ability to provide the national command authority with ground forces on short or no notice.

“We plan for readiness a lot, but to actually get out there and exercise it to see if all the planning you’ve done to prepare for an operation like this one will actually work in practice, has been very positive.” Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Williams, brigade sergeant major for 2-1 ABCT.

These exercises are routine training events and are not in response to any ongoing political or military situation in Europe. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Kris Bonet)
