Gen. Mike Holmes, Air Combat Command commander, speaks at the Gallant Unit Citation presentation, March 14, 2019, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. When deployed, the 74th Fighter Squadron becomes the 74th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) which distinguished itself by extraordinary heroism while supporting Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and engaging with an opposing force from July 15, 2017, to Jan. 15, 2018. During the six-month deployment, the 74th EFS executed operations in three different arenas: Operations ECLIPSE, TIDAL WAVE II, and TALON SPEAR. The incredible volume of strikes combined with enemy threats truly tested the entire war-making mechanism. The unmatched ability of 74th EFS pilots prevented a strategically catastrophic aircraft loss and prevented countless civilian and friendly deaths without degradation to their primary mission, ultimately leading to the decisive defeat of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in Iraq and Syria.
