Col. Johnnie L. Johnson, Jr., a Tampa, Fla. native, took command of the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, in January 2011. During the last 12 months his brigade, located at Fort Benning, Ga., received new Army equipment, trained for future missions, and stayed active in the community. Johnson looks forward to leading the Sledgehammer Brigade for a second year, which will include a rotation to the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., and a possible deployment.
