Petty Officer 1st Class Frank Newsom holds up a photo of himself when he was on his first Individual Augmentee deployment, Jan. 19 at Joint Base Charleston - Weapons Station. There were more than 8,000 Navy IA deployments last year taking sailors to 14 different locations from Central America to the Middle East to serve in an array of different combat support roles. Newsom is preparing for another one-year IA to Afghanistan where he will provide protective services for a senior officer. Newsom is a Master-at-Arms at the 628th Security Forces Squadron.
