Gen. Raymond T. Odierno (center), Army chief of staff, and Gen. Eiji Kimizuka (left), his counterpart with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, review a formation of JGSDF members during an honors ceremony held Jan. 19 at the JGSDF headquarters at Camp Ichigaya in Tokyo. Odierno embarked on an Asia-Pacific theater tour Jan. 17, his first overseas trip since becoming chief of staff in September 2011, to discuss with various leaders the U.S. Army's role in helping to shape the future of the Pacific region. While in Japan, the general also met with U.S. Ambassador John Roos, Japanese Defense Minister Yasuo Ichikawa and military leaders at the U.S. Army Japan headquarters at Camp Zama.
