The image shows two naval vessels conducting what appears to be an underway replenishment (UNREP) or transfer operation at sea. A line or cable is visibly stretched between the ships, with water spray visible between them. The photo is taken from a third vessel or platform, with rigging visible in the foreground, and the scene is backlit by a bright sun low on the horizon.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Jan. 29, 2019) The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) passes a fuel probe to the Álvaro de Bazán-class Spanish navy frigate Méndez Núñez (F 104) during a replenishment-at-sea exercise. Abraham Lincoln is underway conducting Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) with Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12. The components of CSG 12 embody a “team-of-teams” concept, combining advanced surface, air and systems assets to create and sustain operational capability. This enables them to prepare for and conduct global operations, have effective and lasting command and control, and demonstrate dedication and commitment to becoming the strongest warfighting force for the Navy and the nation.
