A civilian in a dark suit and blue tie, holding a gift box, is engaged in conversation with two U.S. Marines in MARPAT camouflage uniforms in front of a large bus or coach vehicle. The Marine on the left has a name tape reading 'GLUECK' and appears to hold a senior rank based on visible insignia. The scene suggests a formal diplomatic or ceremonial meeting, likely at a military installation.

    31st Marine Expeditionary Unit

Rep. Itsunori Onodera of Miyagi Prefecture, senior vice minister of foreign affairs (center), speaks about the relief efforts of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit with Lt. Gen. Kenneth J. Glueck, commanding general, III Marine Expeditionary Force and Col. Andrew R. MacMannis, commanding officer, 31st MEU, during a visit by III Marine Expeditionary Force leadership here Jan. 12. The visit was conducted to review community recovery progress since Operation Tomodachi and to discuss potential humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities to better prepare for future support requirements. During the visit, members of the 31st MEU were able to revisit the areas where they helped in recovery efforts ten months earlier. The 31st MEU is the only continually forward deployed MEU, and remains America's force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
