Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Sheriff, Judge Lina Hidalgo, Harris County Judge, and Admiral Paul Thomas, commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District, review one of the Coast Guard Public Service Commendations to be presented to 12 members of the Harris County Sheriff's Office for their work in the Sector Houston-Galveston Search and Rescue Branch during Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas, on Feb. 7, 2019. With the support and significant expertise of these officers, the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Search and Rescue Branch answered more than 13,000 distress calls and coordinated air and surface rescues that resulted in more than 11,000 lives saved.
