Marines with 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), continue work on Route Red in October 2011. As of Jan. 3, the surfacing portion of Route Red was completed by 9th ESB. The improved road will benefit locals by connecting several major population centers west of the Helmand River, which in turn, will promote economic growth in the region.
