PACIFIC OCEAN– A front plate was placed on a CH-53E Super Stallion from Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166 (VMM) Reinforced, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), in honor of U.S. Marine Cpl. Jonathan Currier, aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), while on a regularly scheduled deployment of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 13th MEU, February 4, 2019. Throughout the Western Pacific 18-2 deployment, the 13th MEU and Essex ARG conducted training and operations across four combatant commands, strengthening key partnerships and providing the combatant commanders a flexible and lethal crisis response force.
