Lt. Cmdr. Timothy Cushanick, a Navy reservist and federal civil servant who works at the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS) Basic Division Officer Course (BDOC), listens as he attends Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center’s (SMWDC’s) Instructors and Tactics Course (ITC). ITC is the initial course every Warfare Tactics Instructor (WTI) candidate must complete before specializing in one of four surface warfare areas. SMWDC headquarters is located at Naval Base San Diego with four divisions in Virginia and California focused on Amphibious Warfare, Integrated Air and Missile Defense, Anti-Submarine Warfare/Surface Warfare, and Mine Warfare.
