Military personnel in camouflage uniforms are conducting a live-fire shooting exercise at an outdoor desert range. At least two soldiers are visible in prone firing positions with scoped rifles mounted on bipods. The setting appears to be an arid training range with desert scrubland, gravel ground, and distant mountains under a clear blue sky.

MCGREGOR TRAINING COMPLEX, FORT BLISS, TEXAS – An Infantry Soldier along with 15 additional Soldiers assigned to Alpha Company, 4-17 Infantry Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, fires rounds down range with the newly developed Squad Designated Marksman Rifle (SDM-R), Jan. 25. Feedback from the infantrymen will assist Program Executive Office Soldier (PEO Soldier), an Army program used to field and develop equipment for Army Soldiers by coordinating and working together with Army combat arms units to collect data and make corrections to the SDM-R, weapon system and ammunition for the weapons platform before mass fielding.
