Spc. Michael Ledford, an Ada, Okla., native and a joint fires observer with A Troop, 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry, enjoys the moment as he prepares to send a nine-line close-air support request to the pilot of a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet flying overhead. The pilot will use this information to drop a training bomb on a target nearby on Udairi Range, Kuwait. Ledford and his fellow JFOs are stationed in Camp Buehring with their unit, which is deployed there in support of Operation New Dawn.
