In 1978, the base rabbi informed him of the new RP rating and in 1979, he applied, attending the first "A" school and was assigned to the CINCLANTFLT chaplains office. In 1980, he took the RPC exam and was among the first RPs initiated into the chief’s mess. He retired from the Navy in 1983.”
