Cpl. Lorenzo Jesus Perez-Tapia removes his M50 Gas Mask Jan. 11, 2019 at Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan. Marines trained in reconnaissance, surveillance and decontamination (RS&D) are required to take a refresher course every fiscal quarter to ensure they are capable of performing RS&D tasks operationally. The M50 gas mask gives Marines the ability to breathe in areas exposed to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) agents. Perez-Tapia, a native of Santa Rosa, California, is a food service specialist with Food Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3rd Marine Logistics Group.
