190109-N-GC129-2002 SASEBO, Japan (Jan. 9, 2019) Vice Adm. Phil Sawyer, the U.S. 7th Fleet commander, is saluted by sideboys and Cmdr. Patrick German, commanding officer of the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), during a waterfront visit to forward deployed naval forces operating out of Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan. Sawyer and Master Chief Tobi Howat, U.S. 7th Fleet top enlisted Sailor, made the visit to Sasebo to thank the crews for their hard work as well as hear directly from the crews operating in the 7th Fleet.
