U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Eric Suganuma, bandmaster of the California Army National Guard's 40th Infantry Division Band, displays the 14-inch Mollard conducting baton he has had for about 14 years. The baton is one of a handful Suganuma uses for various concerts and rehearsals. Suganuma retired in December 2018, after more than 40 years of service as a military musician. Suganuma enlisted as a trumpet player in the U.S. Army right after high school. As a Citizen-Soldier, Suganuma led the 40th ID Band while also serving as a middle school music teacher in central California.
