Bennis Branch, head coach of the Miramar Falcons, embraces Cpl. Thomas VanderLaan, a correctional specialist with the Naval Consolidated Brig here and a Ceres, Calif., native, who received the Gung-Ho Award aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Dec. 9. The award was presented to VanderLaan for inspiring the Miramar Falcons football team through his perseverance to overcome his injuries suffered earlier in the season.
