U.S. Ambassador to Japan, William Hagerty (left) presents a challenge coin to a Japan Ground Self Defense Force service member as part of a visit to U.S. military and Japan Ground Defense Force service members participating in exercise Yama Sakura 75 on Camp Higashi-Chitose, Chitose, Japan Dec. 12, 2018. Yama Sakura 75 is an annual bilateral command post exercise involving the U.S. military and Japan Self-Defense Force with the purpose of enhancing U.S. and Japanese combat readiness and interoperability, strengthening bilateral relations, and demonstrating U.S. resolve to support the security interests of allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Ambassador Hagerty took time during the visit to meet with and recognize U.S service members and Japanese military personnel participating in the exercise, while reaffirming to the U.S.-Japan Alliance and continued peace and stability in the region.
