Army Col. (Ret.) Roger Donlon will donate his Medal of Honor to the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), the unit he was assigned when he was awarded the medal on Dec. 5, 2018 at 10 a.m. CST. Then a Capt., Donlon served as the commanding officer of the U.S. Army Special Forces Detachment A-726. Donlon's team was sent to Vietnam where they established an outpost at Nam Dong, about 15 miles from the border with Laos. Early in the morning of July 6, the base was attacked by a large force of Vietcong. Under Captain Donlon's leadership, the two-battalion attack was repelled. Donlon received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. Col. (Ret.) Roger Donlon is the first Medal of Honor recipient during the Vietnam War, Special Forces and 7th SFG(A).
