Lance Cpl. Dingyi Duan, of Buffalo, N.Y., a high-mobility artillery rocket system crewman with Romeo Battery, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, emigrated from Zibo, China to the United States at age 17. The 22-year-old, currently serving on his first combat deployment, had some difficulty adjusting to his new life in America. Duan has maintained a positive attitude and thrived as a United States Marine, overcoming the challenge of a language barrier when he first enlisted.
