A middle-aged man in a red plaid shirt is kneeling or crouching in front of a white marble military grave marker in what appears to be a military cemetery. The headstone bears the inscription 'WILLIS L. BURN[S]', 'SERGT 145 IN[F]', 'OHIO NOV[...]', indicating a sergeant from an Ohio infantry unit. Pink and white flowers have been placed at the base of the cross-shaped marker.

Retired Belgian army Sgt. Maj. Peter Stassen places flowers at the grave of Sgt. Willis L. Burnworth at Flanders Field American Cemetery Aug. 5, 2018, in Waregem, Belgium. Willis Burnworth, who served in the 145th Infantry, 37th Division, Ohio National Guard, and was killed on Oct. 31, 1918, near Olsene, Belgium during World War I.
