Matt Doster, a maintenance worker at a commercial boat-fixing company, drives a giant lift carrying “Oscar,” a 75-foot mechanized landing craft operated by U.S. Navy Sailors assigned to the Navy Boat Docks at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Oct. 31, 2018. The ship underwent maintenance at a commercial boat yard near Beaufort, N.C., capable of lifting the vessel from the water for hull and propeller maintenance. Barnacles were sand-blasted off the bottom to decrease drag through the water, the hull was inspected for cracks and dents, which were fixed, and special paint was applied to help protect the ship from corrosion.
