Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (FFC), Adm. Gary Roughead, speaks with Sailors aboard the Military Sealift Command (MSC) hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) during a pre-deployment visit. Comfort will remain at Naval Station Norfolk until mid-June to load personnel and supplies, in preparation for a multi-month humanitarian assistance deployment to the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) area of responsibility (AOR), which includes Latin America and the Caribbean. During the deployment, Comfort expects to provide medical treatment to approximately 85,000 patients in more than a dozen countries. While deployed, Comfort will be under operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO) and tactical control of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 24.
