The men are standing in front of a Sentinel Radar System, which is a piece of equipment they work with as members of the 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, of the North Dakota Army National Guard. The soldiers have served together in the National Guard for several years, including two deployments to Afghanistan, most recently in 2010. Chase returned home early from that deployment when both of his kidneys were failing.
