White Mountain Apache Tribe Chairman Ronnie Lupe (middle) gives the traditional Apache tribal blessing to the Army’s first Apache Block III aircraft Nov. 2 during a private ceremony on the flight line at the Boeing Apache product facility. With him is Ramon Riley (left), the spiritual leader and Jerry Gloshay, Jr. (right), Lupe’s executive assistant. Lupe, a Korean War veteran, conducted a prayer, follow by the ‘smudging’ around the aircraft and concluded with two songs and a closing blessing.
