Lance Cpl. Hector Valencia, a motor transportation mechanic with Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, fires an M2 .50-caliber Browning machine gun during marksmanship training aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), underway in the East China Sea, Oct. 17, 2018. Valencia, a native of Bakersfield, California, graduated from South Bakerfield High School in August 2015; he enlisted September 2016. Weapons Company Marines conducted this training to sustain skills with automatic weapon systems throughout the fall patrol. The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide range of military operations.
