Nurses from Brooklyn, N.Y. carry an American flag through the grounds of the American Base Hospital at Dartford, England, near London, on Nov. 11, 1918 after word of the signing of the Armistice ending the fighting broke. The "Victory Parade" covered a a three mile route, around the hospital grounds and through the German prison camp adjoining the American hospital. ( Library of Congress)
