181011-N-IY469-014 – Capt. Christopher Culp, NMCP’s commanding officer, talked to staff during the ceremony. “What's great about the Navy, and I can say this because I think I'm the oldest today, 35 years of commissioned service so I can say it, what's great about our Navy is that we have a presence,” Culp said. “We are heading for 355 ships, deployed around the world, we are taking medical care as we speak down to Central America. We are doing what no other Navy could ever hope to do. And we have a future and we plan for that future and strive for that future every day. We also have a history, and most corporate organizations we might work in in this country, they don't have a history like we have, or a heritage like we have. Today is about all three, and the good part is about continuing the heritage and traditions of our Navy. We gather today to reflect on our history, celebrate our present and look forward to our future.”
