A feather, most likely molted from a Wild Turkey, lays on the ground near a permanent pond on Travis Air Base, Sept. 13, 2018. Molting occurs in response to a mixture of hormonal changes brought about by seasonal changes. Molt keeps birds in top flying condition by replacing feathers that have become worn or damaged with completely new feathers. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Heide Couch)
