    II Marine Expeditionary Force   

    Avon, Conn., native Staff Sgt. Ian Llera, the governance chief for the Civil-Military Operations section of 2nd Marine Division (Forward), was born on the island of Luzon in the Philippines and survived the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. Llera said the ash rained from the sky for two days and accumulated to more than 12 inches.
