Sgt. Matthew Greene, 57th Sapper Company, Combat Airborne Rough Terrain, operates a compact track loader with an attached hydraulic auger system Oct. 5, at one of the sites damaged by Hurricane Florence on the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU), N.C. The auger is used to drill holes for new fence posts. Hurricane Florence battered MOTSU with piercing winds and destructive flooding Sept. 15, leaving the strategically critical logistics installation with eroded rail lines, washed out roads, and significant wharf damage. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was called in to assess and lead the charge in getting the terminal back to full operating capacity. Two elements of the 27th Engineer Battalion out of Fort Bragg, N.C., (the 57th and the 161st Engineer Support Company) were brought in to help with the repairs.
