MEUSE-ARGONNE CEMETERY, France (Sept. 29, 2018) Airmen attached to the 52nd Fighter Wing firing Detail, from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, fire a 21-gun salute during the 100th anniversary of the death of Lt. Frank Luke. Lt Frank Luke is America’s first Airman ever to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor (posthumously) for his last mission. On 29 Sept 1918, Lt Luke was shot down at Murvaux village, wounded in the chest by ground fire and died firing his pistol at German soldiers.
