Sgt. David Lynch, a Human Resources Specialist in the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, reaffirmed the Oath of Enlistment on Heinz Field minutes before kickoff of the Pittsburgh Steelers home opener versus the Kansas City Chiefs Sept. 16. He was among more than 120 current and future service members representing the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard who participated in the mass swear-in and reaffirmation ceremony administered by Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper.
“What a great opportunity. It's motivating to reaffirm the oath in front of thousands of people—it was a great experience.”
Lynch chose to reaffirm the oath and extend his service in the U.S. Army Reserve because of the education benefits. He recently completed a Master’s degree using the Army Reserve Tuition Assistance program but would like to continue to further his education as well as take advantage of a monetary bonus available to reenlisting soldiers.
Throughout Lynch’s eight years of service, he completed two nine-month deployments to Afghanistan and Syria, respectively. “Two deployments have shaped me with leadership opportunities and experience," he said. Lynch believes his duties in leadership positions have led to civilian employment where he currently works for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a Distribution Supervisor.
