Sgt. Colin O’Connell, a biomedical technician assigned to the 28th Combat Support Hospital, repairs a ventilator that will increase operating room capacity during MEDRETE 18-5, Aug. 20, 2018, at the Rwanda Military Hospital, Kigali, Rwanda. This year marks the first year conducting MEDRETE with the Rwandan medical community. MEDRETE is a combined effort between the Rwandan government and U.S. Army Africa. MEDRETE 18-5 is part of a series of medical readiness training exercises that U.S. Army Africa facilitated within various countries in Africa, and serves as an opportunity for the partnered militaries to hone and strengthen their general surgery and trauma skills while reinforcing the partnership between the countries.
