PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 26, 2018) The amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) amphibious transport dock ship JS Osumi (LST 4001) are underway in formation during a passing exercise with the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group off the coast of Japan, Aug. 26, 2018. Ashland, part of the Wasp ARG, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response for any type of contingency.
