Virginia Marine preps for Marine Corps Marathon in Helmand [Image 1 of 2]

Arlington, Va., native Maj. Brian Mullery runs the Luxembourg Marathon in 2006. “Luxembourg, or ‘the torch marathon,’ began at 6 p.m., while most start in the morning or in daylight hours,” said Mullery. “The last mile is a bunch of candles in bags leading to the finish, illuminating the way.” Mullery is working toward his seventh marathon at the end of October, which he will run at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. He is currently deployed as a plans officer with 2nd Marine Division (Forward).
