Non-commissioned officers of the Virginia Army National Guard 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team “Stonewall Brigade” celebrate the promotion of Master Sgt. Chris Tomlinson, a native of Victoria, Va., by holding him down for a few friendly thumps at Forward Operating Base Lagman, Afghanistan, Sept. 2. Good natured thumping is a tradition for most newly promoted NCOs. The Staunton-based 116th is deployed to Zabul province conducting counterinsurgency operations as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
